Lace up for 5K Race Judicata
March 13, 2012
Rain or shine, prepare to pound the pavement by participating in Penn State's Dickinson School of Law 5K Race Judicata to raise funds for the Law School's Public Interest Law Fund (PILF) and Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP). The race will be held in Carlisle on Saturday, April 14 and in University Park on Sunday, April 15. Races are open to law students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends of the Penn State community. Runners and walkers alike are encouraged to come out and show their support. Leashed dogs are welcome, too.
“The work of public interest law attorneys is integral to the profession’s commitment to access to justice for all. Funds raised by the race will be used to enable students and recent graduates to pursue their dedication to serving poor and underrepresented communities in the field of public interest law,” said Sarah Hyser ’13, one of the race coordinators.
The race in Carlisle on April 14 will begin and end at Lewis Katz Hall located on the corner of South and College streets. The race in University Park on April 15 will begin and end at the Lewis Katz Building located on Bigler Road, just north of the intersection of Bigler Road and Park Avenue in State College. All participants are asked to check in at the start/finish point between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. on the day of the race which will begin at 10 a.m.
Interested runners and walkers can complete and submit the online race form or download, complete and mail a hard copy of the registration form (Carlisle or University Park) to Office of Student Services, Attention: Race Judicata, Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law, 333 W. South Street, Carlisle, PA 17013. The entry fee for registrations is $15 and includes a commemorative race T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers. Registration by April 6 is recommended; those who register after that date or on race day cannot be guaranteed a race T-shirt. Payment is required before receiving race materials on the day of the race.
Established by law students in the fall of 1990, the Penn State Dickinson Public Interest Law Fund is dedicated to promoting student interest and community involvement in the field of public interest law. Runners and walkers alike are encouraged to come out and show their support.
The goal of the LRAP is to encourage careers in public interest law by assisting law graduates with their educational loan repayment obligations and, for those who continue in public interest employment, absolving them of repayment obligation.
