Prof. Carla Pratt The path from birth to the bar exam can be precarious for African Americans, who despite being approximately 13 percent of the population are only about 4 percent of the practicing bar. What factors aided African Americans who achieved the status of lawyer in their journey through the pipeline? Professor Carla Pratt of Penn State Law co-authored a book on that question, “The End of the Pipeline: A Journey of Recognition for African Americans Entering the Legal Profession.” She discusses the implications of her research and the role that teachers and affinity groups play in navigating this precarious pipeline. more... |
