Steven W. PrestonOne of the top lawyers of the Obama Administration Stephen W. Preston, the General Counsel of the CIA will discuss Security Challenges and the Law. Mr. Preston is intimately involved with the most  difficult national security legal and policy issues facing our country. In a speech earlier this year he described how the CIA applies the law to specific covert actions that may include the use of lethal force and the legal decision-making behind the Osama Bin Laden operation. After brief remarks, Mr. Preston will open the floor to questions. To promote an open exchange, the session will not be recorded or simulcast.

In addition to his CIA experience, Mr. Preston also brings a wealth of experience from previous appointments in the Civil Division at DOJ; Principal Deputy General Counsel of the Department of Defense; General Counsel of the Navy; and as a partner at WilmerHale.  He received his B.A. from Yale and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
