U.S. Law Summer Program Frequently Asked Questions

Who should attend?
The program is aimed at legal professionals and law students who want to understand the American legal system and business law and improve English language skills in study and conversation about law.  The program is not open to Penn State Law J.D. students.

What are the benefits of attending?
This program offers you essential insights into the American legal system and the potential to significantly improve your legal English communications skills. This program may also be used as a transition into Penn State Law’s LL.M. degree program. Incoming LL.M. students can attend for a reduced fee for $2,000. Other participants will receive tuition credit towards an LL.M. at Penn State Law of $2,000 if you attend Penn State Law's LL.M. program within two years. In addition, you’ll make meaningful connections with fellow students and our outstanding faculty. You will receive a certificate from Penn State University Dickinson School of Law upon completion of the program.

What are the costs?
Tuition, study materials, and lunch during class days are $4,000 USD. Expenses not covered by program fees include breakfast, some lunches, and dinner as well as costs for personal transportation and excursions. Incoming LL.M. students are charged a reduced rate of $2,000 excluding housing.

What are the application requirements?
To facilitate the enrollment process there is an online application. Proof of English language competence and education information is required. There is a separate application for housing and costs are approximately $500 USD.

How late can I register?
The program begins on July 14, 2014 and if there is space available we will accept registrations until June 20 provided you are able to get a student visa. However, there is a space limitation in order to have intensive teaching and discussion in English so it is best to register as early as possible to ensure you will have a seat.
