Externship Programs

Under the guidance of an experienced supervisor, second- and third-year students can step out of the classroom and gain practical experience working in a legal office in one of Penn State Law's externship programs. General externships allow students to continue taking courses while working with federal judges, state or federal government agencies, and public interest or nonprofit organizations. For a full-immersion experience, students may apply for the Semester in Washington, Semester in Harrisburg, or the International Justice Externship programs.

• Externship Application and Placement Information. 
• Application Deadlines. This schedule includes informational meeting dates and application deadlines for the Law School's many experiential learning programs, including its externship programs. Students are not permitted to work in an externship and a clinic in the same semester except in extraordinary circumstances.
• Law School Semester-Based Housing in University Park and Carlisle. The Law School has two furnished apartments with two bedrooms each located at 300 West College Avenue in University Park and two furnished apartments with three bedrooms each located on West South Street in Carlisle.  These apartments are available for rental to single law students who wish to take advantage of a clinical or externship opportunity at either campus or in programs offered off campus for one semester only.
