The Penn State Gerontology Center is responsible for the design, training, evaluation, coordination of Caregivers~PA. The site focuses primarily on information specific to Pennsylvania and covers such issues as health care financing, transportation, support groups, and caregiver self-help tools. It also includes the full-text of the PDA Caregivers Manual: a Guide for Family Caregivers of Older Pennsylvanians.

  CarePlanner is a free online website created by Clinical Tools, Inc., a physician-owned, multimedia company based in Chapel Hill, N.C. Much of the content at this website was formerly in Senior Care Web, also created by Clinical Tools, Inc. Users fill out a series of questionnaires regarding such things as finances, health, living arrangements. Based on information provided by the user, CarePlanner will create individual Advice Reports analyzing living and care options. The site includes worksheets, checklists, and links to related resources.

  CareScout, the online subsidiary of National Eldercare Referral Systems, Inc., was founded by Robert N. Bua, author of The Inside Guide to America's Nursing Homes: Rankings and Ratings for Every Nursing Home in the U.S. The commercial website provides information pertaining to long-term care for the aged and offers ratings and rankings for quality of care for facilities. Retrieving the historical and current ratings and rankings requires registration. Currently registration is free. There is a fee for the CareScout Nursing Home Report.

It focuses on advocacy for the elderly through educational programs, professional training, referral services and an online service to answer eldercare questions and resolve problems. The website includes information on a variety of topics such as elder abuse, health care fraud, nursing homes, and care giver issues. Links to general advocacy sites are also included.

  The Center for Medicare Advocacy, Inc., located in Willimantic, Connecticut, is a nonprofit organization that provides education, advocacy, and legal assistance to the elderly, disabled, and chronically ill. Advice, written materials, and legal services are available for a fee, but are free to Connecticut residents. The website offers information about medicare coverage, rates, and appeals, as well as, links to current litigation and related sites. Click on "News Flash" for updates on Congressional activities, legislation, and current issues.

    As of July 1, 2001, the Health Care Financing Administration became The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS, a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, runs the Medicare and Medicaid programs, the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), and maintains oversight of the survey and certification of nursing home and continuing care providers. Using this site the researcher can find information on Medicare, Medicaid, statistical reports, press releases, fact sheets, speeches, Congressional testimony, consumer and professional publications, laws and regulations as well as other resources.

  CHID Online, available to the public since 1985, is a bibliographic database produced by several Federal government health-related agencies.   This Commission was created by Congress to report on the housing and health needs for the next generation of seniors and offer policy and legislative recommendations for enhancing services and increasing the available housing for seniors.
